Creative Inquiry

icon showing magnifying glass in front of jar holding pencils and paintbrushIf we want people to embrace and understand science, we need to present scientific information in more engaging and creative ways.

To make science more accessible, SCR Associates use traditional and emerging media to enhance understanding of science and the effectiveness of science storytelling.

Through these creative works, our faculty and students answer questions such as:

  • How does storytelling assist in communicating scientific information to the public?
  • How can scientists humanize data and statistics with empathy and accessibility?

Spotlight Project: Conservation of Loggerhead Sea Turtles Through Virtual Reality

Through Virtual Reality, SCR Associate Danny Pimentel illuminates the lifecycle of the Loggerhead Sea Turtle to promote wildlife conservation in his role as principal investor for Project SHELL (Simulating Habitat Experiences of Living Loggerheads)

Using virtual reality technology to promote wildlife conservation isn’t new. However, Project SHELL, is one of only a few VR offerings that brings the user engagement features of the gaming world to aid environmental causes. Integrating realistic, emotional actions in his sea turtle program creates a positive immersive experience that fosters empathy for Loggerheads to promote better conservation for the species.
